With the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street movie, I thought it would be appropriate to go out and do a little monster hunting. What did I find? Hot girls dressed as monsters. Yea .... that's hot!
Ghoul Girls is an enticing display of horror and pin-up photography. Bringing together some of the most unique alternative models and classic movie monsters in a tantalizing twist on the horror genre. Models meet monsters in a different rendition of classic and modern pin-up which will leave you wanting more. The goal was to do something within the horror genre with a twist pin-up that would not only be entertaining, but also a tribute to our favorite things. In other words, they take beautiful woman and make them into beautiful monsters.
I had a chance to talk to Ghoul-Girls founder, Candace Miller, about the project.

FAVORITE HORROR FILM/WHY?:
Oh I have so many, if I have to choose just one than I am going to have to make it The Lost Boys. The overall premise of the movie is fantastic, it’s incredibly believable as if it could really happen, and I still get this nostalgic feeling every time I watch it.
FAVORITE HORROR VILLIAN/WHY?:
My favorite is most defiantly Freddy Kruger. There is something about him that instills fear in everyone in very different ways. He can get you in your dreams and humans are required to sleep so there is no escape. He’s simply frightening and I think that is his allure.

FAVORITE LEADING LADY/WHY?:
In truth, I have two. The first is Jamie Lee Curtis, even though for a long time didn’t admit to her “Scream Queen” status, she has a powerful presence of heroism about her, but can still play the victim part very well. The second is Karen Black, the moment I saw Trilogy of Terror I noticed she wasn’t a victim, she was the cause. She is terrifying but still oozes femininity that I just find myself so drawn to.
HOW DID GG GET STARTED?:
Ghoul Girls got started a a few years back. I was brainstorming a coffee table book based on my own modeling and it became somewhat of a monster of its own. I decided I wanted to get more models involved and it’s kind of evolved in its own way. The calendar was our first big project and we have so many more in the works, including a new calendar for 2011!

"Angels and Demons"
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE YOUR VILLIANS?:
It’s somewhat different for all of them, as some are easier to pull off than others. These are the questions we ask ourselves: How would this character be as a female?, How do we make them sexy without loosing their original purpose?, How would their look change to suit a different body type?, etc. Based on that and the models overall look we run with it. I honestly don’t know how I come up with this stuff, it’s weird, sometimes as soon as I see a model I know who I want her to play. Some characters I already know the model type I am looking for before I find the right model.
WHERE DO YOUR MODELS COME FROM?:
Sometimes it’s word of mouth and they send me their info, other times I am referred models from other models I know or have shot with and most of the time it’s through casting calls on Model Mayhem that I put out. I am currently severely backlogged, but if someone is interested I usually just have them send me pics and stats so I can keep them on file.

FUTURE PLANS WITH GG?:
Another calendar… world domination. Honestly, I don’t know it grows into something new everyday so I just couldn’t tell you. It’s a living, breathing work of art and passion. I do it for the love of it and just want it to surprise me!
