The popular reality show “Canada’s Next Top Model,” where one lucky girl receives a modeling contract as well as a beauty contract from Procter & Gamble and editorial coverage in a fashion magazine, came to close last week when Winnipegger Meaghan Waller beat out ten girls and was crowned this season’s Next Top Model.
The show, which airs on a weekly basis, features regular photo shoot “competitions” in which the girls participate in a unique fashion shoot and are then judged by a panel of judges, all of whom are experts in the realms of modelling, style, fashion, and photography. This year’s judging team consisted of host Jay Manuel, who is also a part of “America’s Next Top Model” from which the Canadian version stemmed, host of “Fashion Television” Jeanne Beker, celeb photographer Mike Ruiz, supermodel Yasmin Warsame, and Nole Martin, a creative director. Each week, the judges decided who would be eliminated and who would continue on “in hopes of becoming Canada’s Next Top Model.”
This year, 19-year-old Meaghan Waller started the competition sporting braces, something that obviously made her unsure of herself (and the judges were starting to take notice). However, once they were removed, and after Waller had gained more experience in modeling with all the photo shoots on the show, it wasn’t surprising that this pretty blonde took home the coveted title of Top Model after competing against and beating Edmonton’s Linsay Willier in a couture fashion show, strutting the catwalk in front of a live audience (including the judges). Since her win, she’s already begun packing for her trip to Elmer Olsen’s Boot Camp to the Big Time, and she’s also preparing for her shoots with “Fashion” magazine, Capezio Shoes, and Covergirl.
