Researchers have found that a bacon sandwich could very well be the magical hangover cure that's eluded mankind for untold centuries. That's right, I said Bacon Sandwich.
Of course, nearly any food is good when trying to get rid of the drunks. It speeds up the metabolism, helping the body get rid of the booze more quickly.
Bacon has a lot of protein, which turns into amino acids, replacing the ones you spent last night chugging away, trying not to hear your girlfriend's bothersome whining about "pregnancy" or some such spacetalk.
Plus, bacon's got amines, which help restore the neurotransmitters you wiped out when you took a good pull from Uncle Chester's bathtub gin. In plain English, it clears the cobwebs out of that poor, aching head of yours.
Elin Roberts, of Newcastle University's Centre for Life said, "Food doesn't soak up the alcohol but it does increase your metabolism helping you deal with the after-effects of over indulgence. So food will often help you feel better. Bread is high in carbohydrates and bacon is full of protein, which breaks down into amino acids. Your body needs these amino acids, so eating them will make you feel good."
No word yet on whether bacon can help you out of your next jam - the DUI you got while hammered last night.
