Let's Go Flying!

No I'm serious, let's really go flying...

Everyone should have a list of things to do before they die. Score with a swimsuit model without having to pay for it, punch a guy in a wheelcair, wrestle a bear, etc. (Maybe your list and my list differ, but you get the idea.)

When The Reaper comes knocking on your door, do you want to have to say “I played it safe, I had a good run I guess...” Or do you wanna be all like “I learned to fly a plane in like 2 hours, HIGH FIVE!”

If you picked the first response, maybe you came to this site by accident. Perhaps you meant to go to SheKnows.com for some casserole recipes and found your way here by mistake. But for those of you that are looking for little excitement in your life, please, by all means, continue reading.

When I say you can learn to fly a plane in 2 hours, I’m only half serious. Honestly it takes a little less time than even that. When “Let’s Go Flying” (a learn-to-fly outreach program that offers introductory flight lessons in 3,500 locations, in most cases for under $100) contacted me about trying out their program, I was skeptical myself. It sounded crazy, and possibly even unsafe. So of course I volunteered right away.

Upon arriving at American Flyers flight school at Santa Monica Municipal Airport I was introduced to the flight simulator by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. The simulator acquainted me with the controls and operating principles of the plane. Shortly after, I was walked through the safety inspection and taxing controls of a small single engine Cessna. My flight instructor, Morgan Deering, was great at making sure I was doing what I was supposed to be doing while simultaneously engaging in witty reporte. Before long, I was taxing up and down the runway like a pro. Within an hour, I was FLYING A PLANE!

Check out the video if you don’t believe me:

Part 1: Learning to Fly

Part 2: Where Eagles Dare

You may have read the part about the introductory lesson being under $100 and not really had it sink in. So I’m going to do you a solid and remind you now that for under $100 you can fly a freaking plane. Unless you are incredibly afraid of flying or, like, Amish or something, you’d be foolish not to jump on this. I can tell you first-hand that it’s totally safe and one of the greatest things you will ever do. For more details, please go to LetsGoFlying.com. Just remember to bring your Aviators and some Dramamine!
