The diminutive gadget is actually a media player, and it looks pretty cool too. The media player connects to your HDTV's HDMI connector and you simply plug in your USB pendrive or external USB device and it will automatically search and create a playlist containing all the HD movies that can be played. From there it's a simple matter of hitting the Play button and sitting back to enjoy.
However, there is no reviews out yet regarding the device and it's not clear what kind of format it will support, as 'supports HD playback' is a very general term due to the large number of codecs out there and the different combinations of bitrate and quality. I have a sinking feeling that it's not going to support much codecs and ultimately those who buy it are suckered into doing so while they are buying their My Passport drives from WD.
This, and the lack of news and promotion from WD's part, means you probably won't be seeing it again in a few weeks.
