Lake Mead is a a natural reservoir filled by melted snow from the Rocky Mountains. Compounded with milder winter seasons, drought, and global warming, Lake Mead is shrinking at a rapid rate, which is a major problem for the Western United States. While these regions might be naturally arid deserts, their large populations depend on the water as a primary source.

Current TV has made a Vanguard short documentary on the alarming crisis to hopefully prompt some more awareness. After all, high gas prices are nothing compared to a global water shortage.

Desalination, here we come.
