For Volkswagen enthusiasts, two years is a long time to wait for the rumored return of the Scirocco.
But at least now it seems the rumors are true. British car blog Auto Express is reporting the Scirocco will hit showrooms in 2008 (according to Motor Trend magazine, the Scirocco will be imported to the United States by late 2008 as a 2009 model.)
From the preliminary pictures, taken at the 2006 Paris Auto Show, it looks like the car will live up to the name that made the model such a smash when it roamed free hit on U.S. streets in the late 1970s into the 1980s. The car was discontinued in 1992.
For those who can’t wait for the sporty Scirocco, VW just showed off its new line of special edition 2007 cars last week, including a “Triple White Beetle.”
An homage to the classic Beetle of yore, the “Triple White New Beetle” convertible is painted Campanella white and features a white interior and a white convertible back.
Only 3000 special edition Beetles are being offered and the 2007 Triple White comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, white leatherette seats and black carpeting. The price is $25,990.
No official pricing information has been given by VW for the Scirocco.
