Man Dies Dancing to ‘Gangnam Style’

Viral dance craze leads to a tragic death.

The popularity of K-Pop musician PSY's breakout single 'Gangnam Style' has proved to be enduring, but last weekend its famous dance routine unfortunately led to the tragic death of 46-year-old British man Eamonn Kilbride.

Mr. Kilbride was mimicking the dance moves featured in the song's video, which has amassed almost 1 billion hits on YouTube since July, at his office Christmas party in Blackburn, when he suddenly collapsed with chest pains as a result of the vigorous routine. The father-of-three was later pronounced dead.

The ultimely death of Mr. Kilbride prompted a warning to middle-aged men to not attempt the dance, with Professor Bernard Keavney, a consultant cardiologist at Newcastle University, telling older men to "not stray outside your comfort zone" at parties during the festive season.

“The chance that you’ll come to grief is very small", said Professor Keavney, "but as with any form of untypical exercise, be somewhat measured. Let the lady dance around you".

Mr. Kilbride's wife, Julie, was also celebrating her birthday at the party in which he tragically died. He paid tribute to him, calling him a "loving husband" who was "the life of the party".
