2013 NAIAS: Maserati Intros New Quattroporte

The new, top of the line Maserati Quattroporte made its introductions at the 2013 NAIAS.

At mega-events like the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, automotive journalists are supposed to stay on top of whatever new cars say their happy birthdays to the world. But, there's an extra buzz when one of the ultra-luxury or supercar makers trots out their latest.

It all was media hands on deck when Maserati unveiled its Quattroporte – the Italian automaker's flagship vehicle. At a special event here on the convention floor, Maserati displayed a car that will be bigger, but lighter — luxurious, but more practical and globally responsible (if that's something Maserati drivers should really give a toss about when they buy one).

This is the sixth go-around redesigning the Quattroporte for Maserati, and this latest version boasts a top speed of about 190 mph — thanks to Ferrari-built, "proprietary," twin turbocharged 3.8 liter V8 or a 3.0 liter engines.

While keeping all of its high-tech, leather-wrapped interior features sweetened with flashes like improved touch screens and adjustable pedals, this Quattroporte reduces emissions by 20% over the previous model.

Exterior styling stays in line with the classic Maserati look with its down sweep, extended nose capped by the missile-like trident grille

As for price, Maserati set the Quattroporte at about $130,000 — which is almost reasonable by major luxury standards.
