Who knew Kevin Smith was a method director? He hired an actual porn star to lend authenticity to Zack and Miri make a Porno. Katie Morgan plays Stacie, a local stripper who screws Jason Mewes in the film within the film. Well, tape within the film. Morgan had fun answering serious questions about her comedy debut.
Crave Online: How did you get approached for this?

Katie Morgan:
I guess Kevin said to Scott and Scott e-mailed me just on my website and I wrote back, like, "Really? Okay. Sure, I'll come audition." There I was.

Crave Online: What was the audition scene?

Katie Morgan:
I read Stacey and I read Bubbles both. They didn't want me for that but I read both the sides, but I don't remember the exact scene. I just remember seeing the character name on top. Not exactly the scene.

Crave Online: But you couldn't get a no nudity clause?

Katie Morgan:
Well, I'm kind of down with the naked, so that's my thing. It's all good. I was like, "You want a naked chick? I am your girl."

Crave Online:
Will you go back to porn thinking about motivation and character now that you've done a Hollywood movie?

Katie Morgan:   I was always the only one arguing about character and motivation and all that to start with. I sort of already had the prude, important thing going on where I wanted it to be right.

Crave Online: Is this the first step in the mainstreaming of your career?

Katie Morgan:   I hope so. I've been doing my HBO stuff for a while which is kind of awesome because it gets my name out there but this was so much more fun. Oh my gosh. It was like movies and yeah, I want to do movies. I like it. I like the production of it and the fact that people actually give a shit how it comes out. It's awesome.

Crave Online: How are you at memorizing lines?

Katie Morgan:   Yeah, I'm a little bit photographic. If I read it once, it's like watching it on TV or if I see something. Jingles, I'm horrible with singing jingles. I'm good at the memorizing and I have, who knew, a god given gift for teleprompter. Take to it like a fish in water. So yeah.

Crave Online: What went on behind the scenes of Zack and Miri?

Katie Morgan:   There was Rock Band. I learned to play Rock Band in Pittsburgh and then I went home and bought my own.

Crave Online: Have you played Rock Band 2?

Katie Morgan:   I haven't played it yet. I know, I want it so bad. I want it so bad. It has a better foot pedal. The worst thing is the foot pedal and my leg hurts. I spent months in Pittsburgh saying, "My leg" because I was limping from my bad leg from Rock Band. Yeah, Rock Band. It was snowy. We didn't go wander the streets of Pittsburgh much. It was freaking cold.

Crave Online: How was the Pittsburgh community when you shot?

Katie Morgan:   I guess if we were out on the street they were kind of. They were to the sides. We were mostly indoors for most of it. It was really cold. I'm from here so that was like my first actual winter. One night I left the window open for some air and I came out the next morning and my armchair was full of snow. So just totally different experience with the winter and the going out. I played a lot of online poker and Rock Band.

Crave Online: Did you ad lib?

Katie Morgan:   No, I didn't really ad lib myself although having read the script, every time Seth or Elizabeth or somebody, or Craig even did some, every time they said something I wasn’t expecting, I always busted up laughing because it's totally in character but not what I was waiting for. Like okay, don't smile, but that was my only thing with the ad libbing. It was not what I was expecting to come out of their mouths but me personally, I don't know if I was quite ready for jumping right in with the ad libbing so I mostly stuck to the script unless they said, "Hey, try this." Okay, I can do that. I'm good at repeating.

Crave Online: How did you enjoy the Star Wars porn?

Katie Morgan:   It was awesome. We got to set them all up in L.A. It was kind of awesome, going and putting the pieces together. Sal was amazing with putting the costumes together.

Crave Online: How many tattoos do you have?

Katie Morgan:
Three. Well, two and a half technically. One's almost gone.

Crave Online:
In your industry, do you have to consult whenever you want to get a new one?

Katie Morgan:
If I was under contract, sure. But sort of I made the call myself once I started in the industry not to get any more until I get out, so that's kind of the rule. It was always supposed to be where you could hide them, but when you don't wear anything, it's kind of hard to hide anything.

Crave Online:
How does Jason Mewes rank as a porn star?

Katie Morgan:   You know, he would make a great porn star honestly. Honestly, he got in trouble for the thrusting. We approve of that. They NC-17'd us because he thrusted so much. We had to do less thrusting. The original shooting of the scene was really graphic.

Crave Online: How many thrusts were allowed?

Katie Morgan:
That's a good question. I don't know what the actual breakdown of appropriate R rated thrust is. I honestly don't know. I don't know if there's a set number of allowed thrusts. I have no idea.

Crave Online:
Did you shoot anything knowing you could cut it later for the rating?

Katie Morgan:
I think we just shot it. And anyways for me, it was kind of extra tame. There were socks and things. It was actually pretty casual.

Crave Online:
What was it like shooting fake sex scenes?

Katie Morgan:
A lot less orgasmic. It was not quite the same. At all. But it looked about the same. We managed to pull that off. We definitely got things lined up properly.

Crave Online: Is that your dog in the movie?

Katie Morgan:   Oh yes, the little Chihuahua is my little dog Bonnie. Yeah, that's my dog.

Crave Online: So it's her acting debut?

Katie Morgan:   Yeah, she was about six months when we were in Pittsburgh. Kevin just said, "Hey, do you want to put her in the movie." I was like hell yeah. So we did.

Crave Online: Did she have a contract?

Katie Morgan:   I don't think so, no. No, no, she just was attached to me or Elizabeth or Craig, whoever felt like holding the dog.

Crave Online: Does PETA have to be there?

Katie Morgan:   See, I don't know all the officialness of it. The thing is we already had the dog on set. The only question was whether she was on film so I don't know what all went from there but it just really wasn't that hard of a set to say, "Wait, hand me that back." It wasn't really anything.

Crave Online: What do you think of the ratings controversy?

Katie Morgan:
I don't think it's going to be a problem. I really have seen much, much dirtier movies.

Crave Online: What has it been like moving from the adult industry?

Katie Morgan:   Well, this is my first real mainstream press experience at all so it's going good. I'm still doing my HBO stuff. I've been with them for a few years. They've got me for a few more so going to keep going with that and been in a movie and who knows where I'm going next?

Crave Online: Do you get recognized more now that you've been on HBO?

Katie Morgan:   Yes, actually, strangely enough, what really changed is I got a big following of older women, which had never been before any of that.
