Based on nothing more than a superficial appreciation for its aesthetics, I love HTC cell phones. Everything from the glossy-black finish to the linear lines to the spacious layout make the HTC cell phones sleek, stylish, and sexy. And in these regards, the HTC S740 doesn’t disappoint, but unlike a vapid supermodel that only looks good on a runway or in a photo spread, this cell phone also has substance and depth with an impressive feature lineup.

No, the HTC S740 isn’t the first cell phone to offer both a QWERTY keyboard and a standard keypad, but what it is offering is much more intuitive than the attachment-laden LG Versa. Measuring in at a mere 0.7 inches thick, 1.7 inches wide, 4.6 inches tall, and 4.9 ounces the HTC S740 is easily pocketable and surprisingly adept for thumbing the QWERTY, whether that’s for tweeting or for business email. For those savage broadband users, the HTC S740 offers a bit more than standard Wi-Fi connections; it comes equipped with HSDPA, which is an enhanced 3G protocol and means down-link speeds of up to 14.4 Mbit/second. The HTC S740 also helps you stay connected with other data services like MMS, SMS, and WAP.
If you’re too old or don’t have a blog to promote, you’ll appreciate the onboard RSS hub to keep you abreast of all your selected interests. The 2.4-inch QVGA TFT-LCD screen (320 x 240) is a pleasant and satisfactory display, despite its affinity for smudge. The S740’s onboard camera isn’t horrible at 3.2MB (for both stills and video), but HTC kept things real simple by making the camera a fixed-focus one, which means it’s good for candid shots at the club or close-up product shots at tradeshows. Internally, there is 256MB of flash and 256MB of RAM (and a microSD slot for expandable memory) supporting Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard Edition and your media.
The HTC S740’s talk time and standby times are estimated at 320 minutes and 400 hours, respectively, which is plenty of time for you to enjoy the AGPS, Bluetooth 2.0, FM radio, Google Maps, and the RSS hub.
The HTC S740 is a quadband phone that has something for everyone and should make everyone, from traveling business persons to hipsters to tech heads, happy.
