Does Adding Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda to Mountain Dew Actually Make It Glow?

Is the Mountain Dew video real or fake?

This video of someone adding hydrogen peroxide and baking soda into a bottle of Mountain Dew made the rounds on the Internet back in 2007. It convinced people everywhere that the concoction would make the bottle give off an alien-like glow.

But our good friends at Snopes.com have once again proven a popular internet myth to be false. After a bit of research, they were able to determine that there is nothing in carbonated soda that would be able to cause it to glow simply by adding hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Their best guess is that the pranksters in the original video added some sort of solution (similar to what goes into glow sticks) to make it illuminate.

To make sure there was absolutely no question about it, they took matters into their own hands and made a little video using the same exact ingredients.

So the next time you and one of your idiot friends are enjoying some Mountain Dews and he brings up this myth, break out this article and crush his dreams.
