This Is The Buzzer Beater To Beat All Buzzer Beaters

You have definitely never seen anything like this before.

Between SportsCenter’s continuous 24-hour loop of highlights and YouTube posting every worthy last second game-winner, it’s hard to get up out of your seat with a buzzer beater. Then you see something like this and realize that it’s still possible to be amazed by a game-winning shot.

With 2.9 seconds left in the Section 1 Class AA Championship between New Rochelle and Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle had one final chance to inbound the ball from under their basket and hope for a miracle to overcome a two-point deficit. Then the ball was stolen and all hope seemed lost. Except that when the Mt. Vernon player who stole the ball tried to flip it in the air to run out the clock, he didn’t throw it high enough. The New Rochelle player who had inbounded the ball got it back and in one fluid motion heaved a three-quarters of the court shot that splashed through the net.

Chaos ensued. The refs originally waved it off but after conferencing (without the benefit of instant replay), they then allowed the game winner. Replays proved conclusive that they made the right call. All in all, this is a totally insane way to end a state championship game.
