I’m going to be honest: I don’t know everything there is to know about everything. Shocking, right? But I do know one thing: don’t ever make fun of drug lords because I’ve seen enough TV shows and movies to know that doesn’t end well. And unfortunately for 17-year-old Juan Luis Lagunas Rosales, he also knows now.
Rosales, who is known as El Pirata de Culiacán, is a big deal on social media with over 300k followers on Instagram and 37k followers on Twitter. Recently, Rosales decided to share a video mocking Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, a notorious drug lord and cartel boss with links to drugs kingpin Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman. Cervantes is also known as El Mencho. In the clip, Rosales can be heard saying, “El Mencho can suck my d**k.” Well, that was a mistake.
On Monday, armed men burst into the party Lagunas Rosales was at with friends at Mentados Cantaros in Tlajomulco in in Culiacan and shot the social media star dead. The popular internet personality, who went by the nickname El Pirata de Culiacan, gave away his whereabouts by tagging his location on Instagram. At around 11pm on Monday night, gunmen burst into the music venue and opened fire. They took aim at Lagunas Rosales and fired more than 15 times, leaving him mortally wounded.
A 25-year-old employee of the bar was also shot, they both later died in hospital from their injuries.
Cervantes is one of Mexico’s most wanted men and currently has a $5 million bounty on his head.
And here’s the video that Rosales took that obviously irked Cervantes:

Here’s hoping no one else out there makes this same mistake.
