Each week there’s enough new music releases to make your head spin, but it seems that the only people providing any comprehensive input on the albums are the ones trying to sell you the music to begin with. We decided to put an end to the spin with our own breakdown of the week’s releases, so you know what you’re getting into when you put on the headphones and start digging!
Music Releases: Week of February 7
The Boxer Rebellion – The Cold Still
Check out "Step Out Of The Car," the first single from alt rockers TBR’s third album.
Also download two new free tracks:
Pick up the album at the band’s official site.
Cut Copy – Zonoscope
We had high hopes for the return, but Zonoscope is an underwhelming follow-up album from Cut Copy, who drown themselves in synthetic soundscapes and simply doesn’t take enough chances to warrant the attention on this latest release.
For a full stream of the new album head to the official Cut Copy site.
Crowbar – Sever the Wicked Hand
Sludge metallers Crowbar return this week with the release of their ninth studio album, a record that promises to be a blistering assault six years in the making.Check out the official EPK clip for the album, featuring an in-depth interview with Crowbar mastermind Kirk Windstein discussing the album and what to expect when Sever the Wicked Hand hits you in the face on Tuesday:
Also check out the new track "Cemetery Angels," from the upcoming record:

Nicole Atkins – Mondo Amore
Atkins’ second LP finds the songstress taking courageous new directional steps in her sound, digging into her own niche while taking flight with an evolved songwriting style that promises great things to come. But don’t take it from me – watch the video for "Vultures" below:

Various Artists – Now That’s What I Call Music 37
Yeah. This is still happening. Even worse, it’s probably going to top the charts for at least two weeks following its release. To date, the NOW series has generated sales of over 200 million albums worldwide and has sold over 77 million copies in the United States. Every album in the NOW series has reached the Billboard Top 10, and it is the only non-soundtrack multi-artist collection to reach #1 Billboard status on the Billboard Top 200 Album Sales Chart.
…And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead – Tao of the Dead
I had such high hopes for these spazzy pomp-rockers, but they hit a sour note on their latest, which you can preview parts of over at their MySpace page.
Slaughterhouse – Slaughterhouse: The EP
The hip-hop supergroup will return for a full and proper album sometime this year, but in the meantime, this 4-song EP should be a solid tease for what to expect. Joelle Ortiz, Royce the 5’9, Joe Budden and Crooked I dropped their eagerly anticipated self-titled debut album in 2009 to solid reviews, and have returned to drop another self titled project, this time an EP featuring appearances from the Lox, Dres (of Black Sheep) and Iffy.
Check out Slaughterhouse’s “Back On The Scene” (feat. Dres) track in the player below.
