File this under "See You In 2045": Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has over three albums worth of finished, complete new songs recorded, according to the band's guitarist DJ Ashba.
In an interview with Australian radio station Triple M, Ashba spilled the beans, sharing that the frontman "has a lot of great songs up his sleeve. He probably has three albums worth of stuff recorded."
Doing his damnedest to add a cryptic nature to the dreadlocked temper-tantrum-throwing megalomaniac frontman's withering image, Ashba explains that Rose is private about the new material – something that's not going to help the follow-up to Chinese Democracy see the light of day anytime soon. The only difference: after the failure of the last GNR record, nobody's exactly foaming at the mouth for new material from Rose and his Frankenstein batch of replacements.
Ashba said the singer "just sits down at the piano and plays. I'm like, 'This is amazing. People have to hear this song.' And he's like, 'Ah, this is something I'm tinkering on'. He's just a genius when it comes down to music and I just cannot wait to sit down with an acoustic guitar and just write. He's just got this gift that's very, very rare."
The band's first album of the original material since 1991, the ever-delayed Chinese Democracy, was met with underwhelming sales and critical scrutiny. The current Guns N' Roses lineup includes Axl Rose on vocals, guitarists Ashba, Ron Thal and Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, drummer Frank Ferrer and keyboard/piano players Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman.
