Comedy Central's host of "The Colbert Report" Stephen Colbert has announced plans to host his own music festival this year — from the deck of the retired World War II aircraft carrier the U.S. Intrepid at New York City’s Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Hey, the man's got a Grammy. Don't question.
Because the music world genuinely doesn't have enough face-meltingly ridiculous festival titles, StePhest Colbchella ‘12: Rocktaugustfest is now officially a thing. The fest, which marks the second iteration of "Colbchella," follows on the heels of last year's considerably smaller studio venture, "Rock You Like a Thirst-Icane," which featured Jack White, Bon Iver, Florence & The Machine and more. This year's even will feature Oklahoma City psychedelic rocker The Flaming Lips, along with Grizzly Bear, fun., Santigold and “Official Colbchella Aircraft Carrier DJ” Grandmaster Flash.
The event is set for Aug. 10 on the Hudson River in New York City. In tandem with the cross-promotional overdose, Colbert's nightly “Colbert Report” broadcast on Comedy Central will showcase a performance and interview from each artist to air during the week of Aug. 13.
“We are gonna rock the boat, which won’t be easy because the Intrepid displaces 41,434 tons,” he said. “Does Bonnaroo have cruise missiles? I think not."
