Vampire Weekend have announced a single sideshow gig as they get ready to tour Australia with Big Day Out, the country’s most prominent and popular music festival.

The New York based group will play on January 23rd  a one-off gig at Sydney’s The Metro- a small, intimate venue that will give fans the opportunity for an up-close performance.

Vampire Weekend were originally to be a Big Day Out exclusive, but have joined Foals and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to the one-off Sydney show.

Australian audiences will be treated to tracks from an upcoming follow-up album to 2010’s Contra. The debut single from the album was previewed on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this month.

Billy Talent and Sum 41 are the latest Soundwave 2013 acts to list additional shows whilst in Australia. The bands will play two extra shows together in Sydney and Melbourne.

Sum 41 were last Down Under in 2011, also with the Soundwave Festival, and have since released a new album Screaming Bloody Murder, however did not perform scheduled sideshows at the time when frontman Deryck Whibley became sick.

Billy Talent are back in Australia after running through a national tour in August this year.

Other Soundwave acts that have already announced additional shows include Blink 182, Linkin Park Stone Sour and Paramore.
