It was no casual occasion last year that when the trailer for director Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of the classic novel The Great Gatsby arrived, the song playing in the background was Jay-Z and Kanye West's "No Church in the Wild."
Reports confirm that Luhrmann has signed rapper Jay-Z to produce an original score for the upcoming film.
The news leaked out when Jeymes Samuels of the The Bullitts tweeted yesterday, “Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!”
No official statement from Jay-Z has been released regarding his involvement, but rumors had been on fire for months about who would be heading up the musical production on the hotly anticipated film. According to reports from cast members, Luhrmann had apparently been playing Jay-Z’s music on the set of the film as well.
“On my first day he had Jay-Z pumped up full, and we did the entire scene with, you know, Jay-Z in our ear on full blast while acting, and it was just so liberating,” Isla Fisher, who plays Myrtle Wilson, told MTV.
The Great Gatsby stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, and hits theaters May 10th, 2013.
