Melbourne’s The Cat Empire released a first taste from their upcoming and long awaited fifth studio album by releasing a sample of the new single ‘Brighter Than Gold’ on Tuesday.

The last studio release by The Cat Empire was 2010’s Cinema and fans haven’t heard any new tracks since for two years, making ‘Brighter Than Gold’ a pretty big announcement for the group’s huge following of international fans.

The single features The Cat Empire’s prominent funk and Latin beats style as well as elements of house and electronica.

Trumpeter and vocalist, Harry Angus, says the as of yet untitled album is a return to the group’s original sound of feel good dance music.

"In many ways this record is a return to our original aesthetic, a very simple thing; that the music is for dancing and feeling good; and that the beat of the record belongs to all nations," said Angus.

"Having said that, we are ten years older now than when we made that first record. So the lyrical content is different, the energy is different. But it should make people smile, make people dance. That’s all we want."

The Cat Empire is set to embark on a national tour next month, hitting up Sydney, Adelaide, Fremantle and Melbourne from the 1st until the 21st of March.
