Paul McCartney, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Mumford and Sons top this year’s lineup for the Bonnaroo Arts & Music festival, and while the rest of the lineup is pretty awesome (seriously though, Björk and the Wu-Tang Clan on the same bill!), there is a good deal of confusion underway as to why retro act Tom Petty has been chosen above so many other potential headliners.
While Wilco, David Byrne and St. Vincent, The National,Nas, R. Kelly, Kendrick Lamar, The xx, Passion Pit, Animal Collective, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Grizzly Bear, Cat Power, Beach House, Local Natives and more round out the bill, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James will host a special “Soul Superjam” featuring John Oates and members of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and The Office’s Ed Helms will host a “Bluegrass Situation Superjam”. Yeah, Andy Bernard from The Office. I have no fucking idea either.
More acts playing are Tame Impala, Alt-J, Dirty Projectors, Swans, Baroness, Japandroids, Death Grips, Earl Sweatshirt, Killer Mike, Father John Misty, Purity Ring, The Tallest Man on Earth, Divine Fits, ASAP Rocky, Big K.R.I.T., Action Bronson, Four Tet, Wild Nothing, DIIV, HAIM, Cults, Charli XCX, and Matthew E. White. Also playing are Billy Idol, ZZ Top, Gov’t Mule, John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension, Dwight Yoakam, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Of Monsters and Men, Portgual.
