Sick of going to a record store just to be sniffed at by some rock snob that’s apparently heard every album ever recorded? Well you’re not alone, and there are more of you than there are of them. Thanks to VH1 Classic you too can learn a great deal about rock music without feeling belittled in the process. Plus, they give you the info from the horse’s mouth (in one case the horse being Bruce Springsteen himself) about the how’s and whys behind their music with the perfect addition of Dennis Hopper as narrator. The Seven Ages of Rock will be a weeklong series starting Monday, December 17 at 9:00pm ET with the first installment titled “My Generation: The Birth of Rock”. That’s right gents, now you can know exactly how it all started, so the next time some guy starts going on and on about The Rolling Stones, you won’t be caught thinking, “Isn’t that a magazine?”

While the first episode starts in the 60’s and explains how early Rock was strongly influenced by the Blues and where it went from there, by the time you get to episode five they have fast forwarded to the 80’s and the time of Stadium Rock. Be prepared to see the evolution of bands like Queen, KISS, The Police and a small relatively obscure band called U2 (I didn’t even know Joshua had a tree). What really makes this series is who they get to sit down and talk to the camera. The Rock genre has lost quite a few of its legends, with only the music to really speak for them. Now you can sit down with people who played with Freddy Mercury and hear their takes on some of Rocks most historic events (like when Queen played Live Aid for the first time).

In the age of TiVo and DVR there really is no reason not to see this great series, and if that wasn’t convenient enough every episode will be available on VH1Classic.com.  Make sure to take some time out for this week of Rock history as Dennis Hopper and company take on a tour of music that no back stage pass could match.
