Anti-log, Le-Frost, Robo-t, Spacey-k and There-E-Mang are the robotic thugs known as 8Bit. Musically they are a Long Island Iced Tea filled with a little bit of Devo, some Ill era Beasties, a splash of post Cube NWA, a heavy dose of Nintendo sounds and a shooter of the Geto Boys. I don't know what else I can say about the Highland Park, CA Hip-Hip crew except that this is probably what The Mooninites listen to (in space). Did I mention they rock mic's on stage while wearing robot outfits?

The inebriated space crew has been around for several years and have been releasing albums on their (DIY) label, Ninjastar and on the Japanese label Village Again/Side-Out. If their name sounds familiar its because you probably heard their 8 bit audio based production work on Beck's "Hell Yes" (aka GameBoy Variations) EP.

8Bit is pretty much about two things; Getting dunk (and or high on teh yayo) and BJ's. That is pretty much it, but then again so is the rest of Hip-Hop right now. The group rhymes over stripped down West Coast (Robo) Funk and in all honesty it's pretty dope. Lots of old school TR-808 highs and lows in their production. Here is a fun fact about the group; THEY ACTUALLY HAVE A REAL F*****G DJ. So despite the whole rapping robots theme, there is some real Hip-Hop in those silver lava retardant suits. 8Bit's lyrics are similar to what you might find on a Kool Keith album, spaced out sex rhymes but with the over the top vulgarity of the 2 Live Crew. They drink more than the Alkaholiks (maybe not, those dude can really drink) or at least they talk about drinking as much. They also find time to set trip on other nearby cities like (the home of the trendy), Silverlake, CA. Just for kicks here are some sample songs titles; "Suck My D***", "Drunk", "Mario III" and the oddly Brit Rock flavored, "Krumpets".

8Bit are bi (coastal that is), so you could catch them in Manhattan, N.Y. or at Safari Sam's in Hollywood where I saw them (opening for Nu-Tra). You know what's cool, 8Bit makes funny Hip-Hop music without mocking it. I bet Bender loves them.
