Maynard James Keenan, iron-throated singer for Tool and A Perfect Circle, has completed the debut album for his new project, the melting-pot of musical collaborations known as Puscifer.
V is for Vagina will be released October 30th through Puscifer Entertainment. Keenan is putting the finishing touches on the video for the first single, “Queen B”, due to be unleashed upon the world later this month.
Confirmed tracks on V is for Vagina include “Dojo”, “Queen B”, “World Up My Ass” (A Circle Jerks cover) and “Cuntry Boner”, an eyebrow-cocking early live version of which can be seen
here.
We can’t be sure if the rest of the album will be in the weird-ass cornball parody vein of “Cuntry Boner”, but it doesn’t appear likely, given the fact that Keenan has released a song under the Puscifer moniker already. The sinfully sexy “REV 22:20” was featured on the
Underworld movie soundtrack, with credits going to Nine Inch Nails alum Danny Lohner, Keenan and actress Milla Jovovich. V is for Vagina will most likely be a patchwork of different sounds and styles, with guests and collaborators including Tim Alexander, Jonny Polonsky, Brandon Bryant, Danny Lohner, Meats Meier, Evil Joe Barresi, Milla Jovovich, Lisa Germano, Alan Moulder, Nipples Creelman, Devo and many, many more.
With his salt shaker handy and tongue firmly planted in cheek, Maynard describes Puscifer as a “multifaceted, multimedia, multi-artist, multi-personality project. It involves film, music, digital video, garments, feminine hygiene products, coffee, pet supplies, websites, blogs, artist collaborations, a few office supplies, and a grip on the idea that chaos is good and that change is inevitable.” He goes on to explain the ‘higher purpose’ of Puscifer, saying "I'm on a mission. I've been assigned to be the guardian of a highly classified, highly effective Sonic Weapon of Mass Disruption. This sonic technology when 'unleashed,' if you will, causes parts of the anatomy to vibrate uncontrollably. Not unlike when someone yawns, everyone in the surrounding area will be affected. If executed properly, the subjects will be temporarily distracted from their duties. Their bodies will appear to be abducted by the Soul Train, as if J-Lo were auditioning for the 'Thriller' video. Awe inspiring. Don't speak a word of it."
Modern music is in need of a sense of humor. Keenan’s new project may speak to a different fanbase than, say, Britney Spears would, but maybe there’s crossover hope. After all, it seems a hell of a lot more original and entertaining than watching a cheetos-stained, Xanaxed trainwreck future suicide starlet mail in a cringeworthy lip-synched “comeback” performance at the VMAs.
