Not that Ke$ha should've actually been nominated for a Grammy, but her snubbing by the academy was softened today with the news that Billboard has crowned her "Tik Tok" as the No. 1 song of the year.
Also ranking as Billboard's No. 5 artist of the year, the Roseanne Barr of the pop world's "Tik Tok" beat out "Airplanes" by B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams, Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance," Taio (TY'-oh) Cruz's "Dynamite," and Katy Perry's "California Gurls" with Snoop Dogg. Which is to say, the 12 year old girls who impact these charts found more to dance and sing along to in their bedrooms from a girl who sings about brushing her teeth with whiskey and sex-slumming than from Madonna on acid and Russell Brand's one-trick pony wife.
Billboard's top album of the year was Susan Boyle's debut, I Dreamed a Dream, followed by Eminem's Recovery. We should just end it there, no? I mean let's be honest here - who wants to contribute to this kind of momentum? Following the two are Lady Antebellum's Need You Now, Lady Gaga's The Fame and Justin Bieber's My World 2.0.
The top act of the year went to Lady Gaga, followed by Taylor Swift, Eminem and Lady Antebellum. GaGa's award arrives just one year after she was named Top New Artist. The last woman to accomplish that feat was Whitney Houston back in 1986 (and that worked out really well for her, didn't it?). In 2006, Chris Brown took home both Artist of the Year and Top New Artist. That one's just too easy.
Billboard determines the awards using chart placement for the year on both the Hot 100 and the Billboard 200. So for god's sake, go smash your kid sister's stereo and put an end to this madness.
