Kanye West and Jay-Z have collaborated on a joint album that will soon see the light of day, according to Kanye himself.
The 33-year-old egomaniacal superstar announced via Twitter that he and Jay-Z will “drop a 5 song album called Watch the Throne.
Last week, 'Ye announced that he'll be releasing a new song every weekend until Christmas. On Friday (August 27), Kanye released his song “Monster” featuring Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, and Bon Iver.
The announcement comes just after the debut of a Jay-Z-assisted remix of Kanye's new "Power" track, which was put on the fast track after West announced in an August 11 interview that a revamp of the song would arrive just two days later. Unfinished, the song was put into overdrive and completed by the following nightfall.
So why announce a track's impending release if it's not complete? "He definitely, definitely was focused," producer Swizz Beatz told MTV News about the rush to finish the record, which also boasts vocals from John Legend. " 'Cause when he made that announcement, we didn't have what we had. But you know when something feels right and it's time to let something to go."
Jay-Z and Kanye's professional relationship goes back nearly a decade, to when Kanye produced tracks such as "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)". They've yet to be fully vocally featured together on an official release.
