Pearl Jam’s new video for Amongst the Waves is a gorgeous look at our oceans, a welcome respite from the oil-slicked visions we’ve had for months – but also a call to action to save the big blue.
This one's worth maximizing, for sure:
In true Pearl Jam fashion, this rare music video from the band features a live performance of the oceanic tune, as opposed to the cinematic Jeremy style approach they took early in their career. Singer Eddie Vedder is known to be a maniacal surfer, though to pre-emptively settle any fanboy debate, the main character in the video isn’t him – nor is he the beach-walking guy in the opening with the little girl.
As the song comes to a close, the stunning oceanographic video gives way to a heartbreaking return to the grim realities of the BP oil disaster in the Gulf, along with a message: “There is only one ocean for everyone. Look after it and preserve it for present and future generations.”
The call to action leads us to a leaping point: Available July 6th on iTunes, proceeds from the U.S. sale of the Amongst the Waves video will benefit Conservation International’s Ocean Campaign. To learn more about this campaign and Conservation International’s Ocean Initiatives, click here.
