In full promotional mode since the release of Plastic Beach earlier this month, Gorillaz have released a new video game called Escape to Plastic Beach, which includes an mp3 download of the band’s new single "Superfast Jellyfish". (Check out our Plastic Beach review as well.)
Fans who bought the CD will be able to play the game for free. If you don’t have the album, you can still play the first two (of three) levels without dropping any cash. So if you’re in the mood to shoot at a fat, vindictive cop while he tries to smash you off the road, you’re in luck.
The game features original artwork, voiceovers from the band and an instrumental loop of "Stylo," the album’s first single. But be warned: if you play the game for more than five minutes, you’ll want to put your fist through the song.
A word from frontman Murdoc Niccals: “Hey! This is fan-tastic. Some top-notch gonk gaming company have made a Gorillaz game that you can play free online. It’s all based on Plastic Beach, and it features me, 2D and my cyborg Noodle! What’s even better is that if you pay the £1.50 for the last part, you get our new single “Superfast Jellyfish”, and that’s got ‘Super Furry’ Gruff and the De La Soul boys on it! El Caminos, Boogiemen, ghostly pirate ships, underwater chases, mines, fat cops and gun battles all wrapped up in some snazzy new gaming technology and a great new Gorillaz track too…I mean, what more could you want?
