The 28th annual Canadian Music Week is in full swing in Toronto, running until the end of the weekend. Hug musical sensations like Alicia Keys and Our Lady Peace will be hitting the main stage, along with several lesser-known indie acts who hope this fest gets them increased exposure, including Ghostkeeper, D'Urbervilles, Silver Starling, Metz and Soft Copy (who will all be playing in one evening).
On opening night, Music Week-goers will be treated to a show by Polaris Prize-winners, the band F****d Up, appearing at the El Mocambo. Our Lady of Peace will be giving two shows at Massey Hall, DJ Champion & His G-Strings will perform at The Guvernment, and P.O.S will be at Sneaky Dee’s on the last day of the fest.
In addition to musical acts, Music Week is also an opportunity to gather industry experts and discuss various issues the industry is currently dealing with – for example, a conference with bigwigs like Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy and CNN’s John Roberts will be held. Also, the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards, or “The Indies,” which promotes and honours the achievements of Canadian and international artists in the independent music sector, will take place on Saturday, March 13th.
To be a part of Canadian Music Week, you can purchase a regular wristband for $60 or a V.I.P. one for $150 (V.I.P.), buy tickets to individual events or try buying tickets at the door. The wristband will get you into a variety of events happening throughout the week, including movie screenings, club nights and after-parties. Visit www.CanadianMusicFest.com for more info.
