Billboard Magazine has launched a new website to allow music lovers to watch concerts online - for free. Not only that, but the new site also allows viewers to choose from five different camera angles while watching the show.
BillboardLive.com says its new concert-viewing Web site offers visitors different perspectives on performances by Alicia Keys, Usher, David Archuleta, Daughtry and other artists yet to be announced.
Founder Michael Williams says that the launch of the site is a way for the magazine to start "reconnecting artists with their fans, for free." That last bit, the "for free" part, seems to be an entirely new concept to the slash-and-burn profiteering methods in the music industry of late. With skyrocketing ticket prices, service charges and merchandise fees, news of the free site comes as a warm change of pace from the wallet-mining tactics music lovers have been subjected to for years. It's no wonder that piracy is skyrocketing and both album and concert sales are way down in most markets. People are tired of getting robbed!
Fans will also be allowed visitors to interact with Twitter or Facebook during the concert without leaving the performance website - a wise move, considering that the kind of people who have time to sit and watch a two-hour concert are the same types who spend half their day poring over (and contributing to) the social-media feeding grounds.
The concert application is also available for iPhone. Additonal concert listings will be added through February. Daughtry's up next on the 19th. You've been warned.
