A second look into the stylings of Jay-Z’s wildly anticipated forthcoming Blueprint 3 has arrived in the form of "Run This Town," a new track featuring Kanye on verses and and Rihanna on the hook.
Chips to Kanye for his semi-ironic callback of “no homo,” a hilariously ridiculous homophobic phrase that never seems to die. Through the track Jay, Kanye, and Ri-Ri claim their hold on the “town,” which apparently should be taken as a metaphor for the entire state of rap music.
While the lyrics are tight and it's refreshing to hear the Hov's swagger hit full gear once more (much as I celebrated the message, "D.O.A" did nothing for me), Kanye inarguably takes a strong upper hand in his verse ("I'm just tryin' to change the color of your mood ring"), which is a callback to his College Dropout style. Rihanna's contributions are the most noteworthy, however, providing her most prominently memorable vocal return since the Chris Brown incident.
