Jack White has gone and delivered the awesome once more- this time in the form of a new song by his new band The Dead Weather. It’s called Treat Me Like Your Mother, a song which appears to be the second track off The Dead Weather’s upcoming album Horehound, (due July 14th) is available for a free download over at their site; just punch in an email address and a download link will appear, clickety-click.
White has lined up one of the most formidable sonic Frankensteins- possibly even since Cream- in the combination of Dean Fertita of Queens Of The Stone Age, Allison Mosshart of The Kills and “Little” Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs. They’re just getting started, but I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that Horehound is going to blow quite a few minds.
Check out Hang You From The Heavens, the first full song we heard from the band:
Jack’s been listed as a drummer thus far in the band, leaving chief vocal duties to Mosshart, but as Treat Me Like Your Mother shows, the man’s an obsessive multitasker. Jack’s style imprint is all over both tracks, to any White fan’s delight. The melody structure, the fuzz-funk jitterbug guitar, the punchy delivery- it bleeds candycane stripes.
White’s imprint is far from a bad thing, however- their debut album Horehound (June 9, Third Man Records) is high on the list of anticipated releases in 2009. Now if we could just get the Stripes in motion…
You can hear another track, Are Friends Electric? on The Dead Weather’s official site. The band’s playing their first (public)show ever at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC on April 14th.
