Despite losing a sales battle to Kanye West last year Curtis still sold well and had a couple of hit singles to boot. 50 also released a new G-Unit album this year in the midst of controversy over the departure of former member Young Buck. Yes, it’s been quite a year for 50 Cent to say the least. Now it’s time for the MC to get that Christmas money with a December release of his latest solo album.
One of the primary reasons this albums release is so noteworthy is the ‘get back to basics’ approach the MC is taking with this album. Before I Self Destruct marks a reunion of sorts with Dr. Dre and Eminem, who helped produce his first hit record ‘In da Club’ and subsequent number one album. Slim Shady makes a couple of appearances on the album, which will likely be produced in majority by Dre, we do know for certain that the lead single off of the album will be produced by Scott Storch.
As if the news of the album wasn’t enough, 50 Cent has attempted to outdo himself with his latest release by packaging in a 90 minute movie that he wrote, produced and starred in himself. Sharing the same title as the album the film is about a young man named Clarence (played by 50 cent) who has been raised by a single mother. He has a little brother to look after and dreams of making it big in the NBA. It all goes to hell when his mother is killed and Clarence is left fighting to support himself and his younger brother.
"My film captures the harsh realities that reflect so many communities today. There will be some who will greatly identify with the characters and the situations presented and then there will be others who may be shocked at the struggles that go on in the inner city,” states 50 Cent. "I made the film for both groups."
Before I Self Destruct will hit store shelves December 9th 2008, just in time for Christmas.
