An upcoming three disc compilation to benefit homeless youth entitled Live From Nowhere Near You Vol II arrives on July 19, featuring an impressive number of high-profile musicians. Included in the release will be tracks from Modest Mouse, Stone Gossard and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Bright Eyes, Corin Tucker, Elliott Smith, James Mercer and many more.
A collaboration track between Eddie Vedder, Joshua Homme and The Strokes is to be included in the star-studded compilation album as well. Queens of the Stone Age/Them Crooked Vultures frontman Homme joins the Strokes' Fabrizio Moretti on drums on "Mercy Mercy Me," while Pearl Jam's Vedder and Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas share vocals. Head to Antiquiet to hear the song.
As savvy fans are undoubtedly aware, "Mercy Mercy Me" was previously only available as a B-side to The Strokes' single "You Only Live Once". And while news of the track's inclusion may not be the pinnacle of excitement, its context alongside so many other high-profile releases may very well be.
The compilation has been compiled by Kevin Moyer and consists of collaborating street musicians, friends and professional musicians. The majority of the music recorded in his attic and basement studios, donated spaces, live on the street and in alleyways or under bridges, with the purpose of the album being to tell the story of life on the streets and the roads leading to and from it.
The Volume Two effort is three CD combining for over 210 minutes of music. You can get the whole set right now for only $15, which also includes a digital download version. Preordering is the only way to get all of the tracks on the release (there are a couple of big name artists that won't appear on the digital only versions). Most of the compilation's 64 tracks are exclusive to the album and cannot be found anywhere else.
All profits from this release will be donated to Outside In, a non-profit organization in Portland, OR focused on providing aid and counseling to homeless youth. Keep an eye on the organization's Facebook page, where they will be releasing more details in the coming days. Antiquiet's got another trick up our sleeve before the release of Live From Nowhere Near You Vol II - stay tuned for an exciting audio exclusive from the project.
Right now, the album is available for pre-order through Greyday Records' website for $15.
