Legendary R&B singer Etta James – most famous for her hit songs "At Last" and "Something's Got a Hold on Me" – has died, her longtime manager and friend Lupe De Leon has confirmed. She was 73 years old.
The singer, a key figure in the early days of R&B music, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010, and has struggled with serious health problems for years that included dementia and Hepatitis C. James spent two weeks in the hospital earlier this month, battling the final stages of terminal leukemia. She passed Friday morning in Riverside, CA.
A fireball of passion and talent, Etta won 6 Grammys in her lifetime and was also voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Check out a rollicking performance from the late songstress on "In The Basement":
Her final album, The Dreamer, was released in November 2011.
