WTF?! Was Hulk Hogan Almost in Metallica?

The 80s were a really, really weird time, but they could've been so much weirder…

Was 80s wrestling legend Hulk Hogan nearly destined for success as a member of the biggest metal band of all time? If the Hulkamania is to be believed, yes.

The aging grappler revealed to The Sun that he almost joined an early version of Metallica, due to his close friendship with drummer Lars Ulrich during the band's early days.

"I used to be a session musician before I was a wrestler," Hogan explained. "I played bass guitar. I was big pals with Lars Ulrich and he asked me if I wanted to play bass with Metallica in their early days but it didn't work out."

Digging a little deeper, Hogan shared similar news two years ago in an interview, but was a little more realistic about the exchange. “When Metallica was looking for a bass player, I called and never heard a word back from them either. I would have quit wrestling in a heartbeat to be a bass player for Metallica.”

Imagine, instead of "Master of Puppets," Hetfield and Co. rocking to this:

Hogan, whose "Real American" entry music was the extent of his professional connection to rock, also shared his love of the Stone Roses. The recently reunited Manchester band were once the soundtrack to his workout sessions. "I love the Stone Roses. They're getting back together, right? That's cool man. I used to work out to some of their songs".

The wrestler also said he was aware that English rockers Kasabian often use his name as a pseudonym to check into hotel rooms under. "I heard about these guys," he said. " They have made a show about UK wrestling in the '80s, called 'Walk Like A Panther'. I know Rollerball Rocco, he's in it. He's my guy. I'll be his tag partner and sort them out for trashing hotel rooms under my name".
