With the 54th annual Grammy Awards being swept by Adele and Foo Fighters, CraveOnline was inspired to put together a list of 25 Artists Who (Surprisingly) Never Won a Grammy.
There are many factors leading up to the nominations for the big ceremony, and the winner's selection process is a rigorous one. It's artistic or technical achievement that take deciding precedence over album sales, presided over by a panel of "experts" in the particular field of nominees. Naturally, there's a rich bed of fertile comedic soil there for anyone who remembers Eric Clapton's slow-jam acoustic rendition of "Layla" winning Best Rock Song in 1992 over Nirvana's tectonic-shifting "Smells Like Teen Spirit," or A Taste of Honey winning Best New Artist over Elvis Costello in 1978.
A few technicalities are keeping even more names just off to the margins of this list: Elvis Presley won only for his gospel music, never his rock n' roll. Neil Young's win in the Best Rock Song category last year keeps him mercifully out of these ranks. Here is the final 25:
Led Zeppelin

Queen

Jimi Hendrix

The Who

The Doors

Bob Marley

Buddy Holly

The Kinks

Diana Ross

Janis Joplin

The Grateful Dead

Lynyrd Skynrd

Bjork

Run DMC

Guns N' Roses

Public Enemy

Sly & The Family Stone

The Stooges

Motley Crue

Depeche Mode

Notorious B.I.G.

The Pretenders

Oasis

Journey

Parliament/Funkadelic

Perhaps we'll see some of these names crossed off the list at the 2013 Grammys. In the meantime, be sure to let us know who else is deserving of Grammy gold below!
