Andre 3000, occasionally of the rap duo Outkast, has locked a coveted role as Jimi Hendrix in a new biopic about the legendary guitar player that's set to begin shooting in Ireland later this month. Titled All Is By My Side, the film is written and will be directed by novelist and screenwriter John Ridley, who most recently scripted the Tuskegee Airmen film Red Tails starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrence Howard.
Andre Benjamin, as he's known as in his film work, has been a name long attached to the idea of a Hendrix film, and IFTN.ie, broke the story with confirmation that All Is By My Side will indeed move into shooting before Summer. The movie will reportedly focus on the period during which Hendrix recorded his 1967 debut album Are You Experienced, which stands among the most legendary rock albums ever produced. Production is scheduled to last six weeks in both Dublin and Wicklow, Ireland.
Benjamin's previous acting credits include starring or supporting parts in Be Cool opposite John Travolta and Uma Thurman, Four Brothers with Mark Wahlberg, the ill-received 2006 Prohibition-era musical Idlewild with his Outkast partner Big Boi, and a small part in Semi-Pro co-starring Will Ferrell.
Andre is also reportedly quite skilled at the guitar, something which will undoubtedly be a mandate for a role playing the greatest guitarist of all time.
