WTF?! Muse New Album ‘The 2nd Law’ Goes Dubstep?

Oh boy.

The band Muse are currently putting the finishing touches on the follow-up to their 2009 album The Resistance, and if the following video is to be believed, we're about to have a bunch of bass drop on our hands. The band has a notoriously tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, but something tells us this one's not a joke…

Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme has said in the past that the band want to do something "radically different" on their next album. He told Kerrang! that the band were "drawing a line" under their past and were eager to embrace new ideas.

"[The band] feel like we are drawing a line under a certain period of what we've done in our career. It feels like it's time to move on and do something radically different."

The final portion of the trailer above is a head-first leap into the brostep genre, the dumbed-down wub-wub-wub interpretation largely confined to U.S. dubstep these days. England, Muse's homeland, has had a much lengthier and arguably more artistically relevant relationship with dub and electronica, which leads one to believe (and hope against hope) that this is all a clever ruse. Time will tell…

Muse's new LP will be their sixth studio album.
