Nelly Furtado To Headline Niagara New Year’s Eve Bash

Songstress will join Hedley and Dragonette in Niagara Falls to ring in 2013.

At the annual New Year's Eve party at the Niagara Parks Commission, not only will Canadian songstress Nelly Furtado head up the festivities but the band Hedley and the electro-pop group Dragonette will join her as well.

The show will be free of charge, as usual, to attendees.

“Different styles of music, different crowds,” said Jeff Dixon, assistant general manager of the Scotiabank Convention Centre, to the Niagara Falls Review. “We all have our musical preferences and tastes. What this does is cement Niagara Falls as the true New Year’s Eve destination in Canada.”

The NYE show follows the release of Furtado's latest album, "The Spirit Indestructible," and the performance takes place just days before she kicks of her latest tour of the same name (which begins in her hometown of Victoria on January 8th). Furtado has received a number of accolades, such as a Grammy along with a Billboard Music Award, 10 Junos, and she has a star on Canada's Walk of Fame. She has released a total of five studio albums and has also flexed her acting muscles, appearing in more than eight films and television shows like "Roswell" and "CSI: NY."

Past performers at the Niagara Falls' New Year's party have included Newfoundland's most popular export, Great Big Sea.

The free concert is slated to begin at 7:30pm, with fireworks scheduled for 8:45pm as well as midnight.
