Arcade Fire & James Murphy Collaborating on New Album

Confirmation arrives after a series of denials and rumor-deflection.

We finally have confirmation on a rumor that's been burning for a while now, and persistent despite the denials: The Arcade Fire is in the studio with LCD Soundsystem alum James Murphy, working on their forthcoming album.

The fan community Arcade Fire Tube points out confirmation of the rumor, with manager Scott Rodger announcing in Music Week, "They're in with James Murphy on three or so songs, plus Markus Dravs who is a long-time collaborator. They write too many songs – that's a good problem to have. There's around 35 songs with Arcade Fire, two albums'-worth for sure."

This, of course, counters denials from Murphy himself in the past, who said in an interview with The Huffington Post earlier this year that speculation of him producing the new Arcade Fire album was “not necessarily true.” He explained: “We don’t work like that. Because I work with friends, if I have time and they’re doing something and I’m on the East Coast, then we can do something. But also they don’t need a producer, in a way. They produce themselves. When I was making my record, any number of people came and spent a couple weeks or a week hanging out and being involved in the process.”

Well, now we know better. We should expect to see the release sometime in late 2013. Until then, imagine what these two musical entities might be up to…
