Listen: David Bowie Drops First Song in Ten Years, Plans New Album

Bowie's back! Who saw this coming?!

Here's some great news to kickstart your Tuesday morning: music legend David Bowie has announced that he will be releasing his first new album in a decade.

'The Next Day' will be released to fans in the UK and most other countries worldwide on March 11th, while Australian fans will get the album on March 9th and America will receive it on March 12th. The standard edition of the album contains 14 tracks, while the 'deluxe' edition contains 17.

To coincide with the announcement of the album, Bowie released a new single (also his first in 10 years) titled 'Where Are We Now?', the video of which is available to view below. The track is also available to download on iTunes.

Bowie has not performed live since 2006 and has remained out of the public eye since then, leading many to speculate that he was suffering from ill-health (rumours which his management dismissed). He also rejected the opportunity to play at the Olympic Opening Ceremony last year, despite being personally asked to do so by director Danny Boyle.

The lengthy period of time since fans have heard any new material from Bowie is referred to in the announcement message left on his site, which reads:

"In recent years radio silence has been broken only by endless speculation, rumour and wishful thinking ….a new record…who would have ever thought it, who'd have ever dreamed it! After all David is the kind of artist who writes and performs what he wants when he wants…when he has something to say as opposed to something to sell. Today he definitely has something to say."
