Listen & Download: Eddie Vedder’s Pre-Pearl Jam Demos

Listen to covers of Kenny Rogers, Sam Cooke and various originals from Vedder's San Diego days.

Pearl Jam superfans are always on the hunt for new and rare recordings of the band, and while many of frontman Eddie Vedder's demos from before he joined the Seattle rockers have surfaced, some "new" recordings have been uncovered this week.

Antiquiet recently came into possession of a direct copy of a tape that Vedder dubbed for a co-worker something between 1989 and 1990. In addition to several tracks that have made the rounds online, a few entirely “new” recordings were made available.

In addition to cleaner-sounding recordings than anything we’ve heard before, other gems on the tape worth mentioning are a falsetto-laden karaoke-machine cover of "Something Inside So Strong," a track made famous by Kenny Rogers, as well as a brief, lighthearted cover of Sam Cooke’s "Wonderful World".

Also, fans seeing "I’m Alive" on the tracklist shouldn’t confuse the boisterous and rather comical track with Pearl Jam’s signature single "Alive," as this particular song takes issue with rap music and profound lyrical expectations rather than an Oedipal tale of a fatherless child.
