Update (3/7): The band has issued a statement denying that the album is complete. Sorry to disappoint, Tool fans.
Will we finally see a new Tool album this year? Though they are certainly known for hijinks and misinformation, according to guitarist Adam Jones the long-awaited new Tool record, the follow-up to 2006's dark masterpiece 10,000 Days, is complete.
At a pre-show VIP meet & greet in Portland, OR on Thursday afternoon on the band's current tour, guitarist Adam Jones reportedly confirmed to our source that the alien-prog rock maestros' new album is "100% done" and should arrive later this year. Aside from a mention of different time signatures than their previous work, there is no other information to report at the moment. The confirmation is certainly enough to get pulses racing, however.
Danny Carey, Tool‘s polyrhythmically demonic drummer, did an interview last Spring in which he shared the promising news that the time-signature-molesting legends would enter the studio to begin tracking their new album “sometime in June or July.” Given that we've progressed nearly a year since that date, and frontman Maynard James Keenan has harvested his grapes and sown his awesome weirdo oats, the news doesn't seem outlandish.
In the meantime, conspiracies abound that Tool is neck-deep in making a movie, as the band is out on tour with the mighty Failure.
