Islands' Anti- Records debut, Arm's Way, finds the young Montreal sextet heading in a surprising new direction. Since their 2006 release, Return to the Sea, the band has naturally gravitated to a more lavish sound that showcases songwriter Nick Thorburn's love of lush arrangements. With Ryan Hadlock (Blonde Redhead, Stephen Malkmus) as co-producer, Arm's Way opens the door to a sprawling symphonic world that makes good on Islands' early potential.
