Live From Abbey Road
Bryan Adams, Ben Harper and Justin Currie perform.
Bryan Adams is a great singer with a huge body of work, his first song is Heaven from 1984. It’s a sweet song in case you don’t remember it. Played acoustically with just the aid of a single violin Adams never sounded better. The reason you should watch the show has everything to do with what the artists have to say between tracks. Adam’s is candid and informative in a very comfortable setting. How else will you learn that Adams goes on tour 10 days out of every month? Or how he wrote a song on an airplane?
The next song he plays will be a more recent affair called She’s Got A Way. This song is also acoustic with a little back up from the Violin. The song is a sweet, natural, and beautiful affair that I have to own for myself. He then explains how the creative process in songwriting works for him before going quickly into his final song, another classic, Cut’s Like a Knife off of the 1983 album of the same name.
The next artist to come into the studio is none other than Ben Harper. He explains a lot about himself and his approach to music. His first song is Better Way, written by him in 2006. His band The Innocent Criminals brought out all their cool instruments and proceeded to have a blast. His song is uplifting and smart, showing Ben Harpers word craft and maturity. He gives credit to his band mates which is cool, and talks about how great it is to perform at Abbey Road before digging into his second song, one that he and the band wrote together, the song is called Fool For A Lonesome Train.
His final song is a Bill Withers song called Use Me, and Harper talks about how important Wither’s is to the nucleus of the band. Their rendition is an awesome one, easily the highlight of the show. Harper explains how each member of the band has a different passion but that they all have a Bill Withers album in their collection. These are just a few of the gems you’ll get from watching Live From Abbey Road.
As always with Live From Abbey Road there is a mix of the new along with the old, and this week the new goes by the name Justin Currie. He brings the episode to a close with a great song called Still In Love. But not before talking a bit about the record business and working as a solo artist for the first time after being the lead singer of a group.
Even after 11 episodes there is a lot to enjoy about Live From Abbey Road, each episode is fresh and new with great content and wonderful acts. There is only one episode left after this one so if make sure to be in front of the TV tonight and tune into the Sundance Channel.
