Ghostface Killah follows up the Gold selling album, Fishscale with More Fish. It is ambitious to release two albums in the same year but even more ambitious to release two good albums in the same year.

The album is a cross between Fishscale and 2004’s Theodore Unit group project, 718. The album showcases Ghost’s Theodore Unit crew and has appearances from Redman and Sheek Louch. With only four solo Ghost joints, you would think it that would feel like a mixtape, but it doesn’t. Having your crew appear all over your album is usually a mistake but the Theodore Unit MC’s really step up on this album. Trife continues to be a standout MC as does Ghost’s 17 year old son, Sun God.

The album starts out with Tracy Morgan and Ghost talking about… Hey, it’s Tracy Morgan and Ghostface, who in the hell knows what they were talking about. Something about missing toes, peanut butter and New Years Eve. This is the second paring of the eccentric comedian and Ghostface, who recently made a cameo on Morgan’s NBC show, 30 Rock.

The subject matter is classic Ghostface, street stories, crazy stories (peep “Alex”), relationship stories and straight up boasts. Ghostface continues to have one of the most versatile flows in Hip-Hop.

The production quality is as good as any of Ghost’s previous albums if not better as Ghost seems to experiment with the sounds more on this album. The Mark Ronson produced “You Know I’m No Good” (with UK Soul singer Amy Winehouse) and the Hi-Tek produced “Josephine” delve in to new sonic territories.

Stand out songs on More Fish include “Ghost Is Back”, which uses the Rakim classic, “Juice (Know The Ledge)”. “Gunz N’ Razorz” is a classic Marvel Comics inspired track produced by MF Doom. The Acid produced “Block Rock” sounds like urban Sci-Fi rock and musically matches the equally dope, “Blue Armor”. Theodore Unit members Shawn Wigs and Solomon Childs shine on “Pokerface” and “Grew Up Hard”.

I could have done without the “Back Like That Remix” with Kanye West, aside from that the album is 100% Bangola. Ghostface fans will like this album and with the diversity of sounds he should win some new fans too. Ghostface continues to wave the Iron Flag for the Wu-Tang Clan as well as establish himself as one of Hip-Hop’s greats.
