The Sports Cynic: Packer Fans

There are endless opinions, but my opinion is the only one that matters.

The Sports Cynic: Packer Fans

The smell of cheese will run rampant in Chicago. Yuck.

No you are not dreaming, the Green Bay Packers have made it to the NFC Championship game for the first time since quarterback Brett Favre left the team.  I had brief hopes that this would cause Packer fans to shut up about Brett Favre, but there is a feeling in my gut that tells me that is probably not true.  That or the fish I ate at the hole-in-the-wall mexican restaurant for lunch is already catching up with me.  That could be bad news.

I do not have a beef with the Green Bay Packers.  Aaron Rodgers has shown he can win big playoff games against solid teams, and I cannot get enough of Clay Matthews on defense.  My unwavering pick for the NFC Championship is most certainly the Packers, even though they have to head to the windy city to play the Bears at home.  All the Bears had to do to make it to the big NFC face-off was beat the Seattle Seahawks at home, which is about the same as a heavy weight boxing champion fighting a six year old girl for a Twix bar.  It is mean and hard to watch.  So there is my prediction; Green Bay in the Superbowl.

Do you get the feeling that I am being uncharacteristically cordial for being The Sports Cynic?  Do not fret, I would never let you down.

So where’s the beef?!  It is a whole lot of beef, covered in CHEESEheads.

If I have to listen to one more Packer fan whine about Brett Favre leaving cheesehead nation I am going to boycott eating cheese for a year.  And I love cheese.  Get over Favre you idiots!  Your brand-spanking-new, wonder-boy of a quarterback just led your beloved team to an NFC championship game in only his third season!  I understand, Mark Sanchez has brought his Jets to the AFC Championship game both of his years as a starter in the league, and I am sure that puts a bad taste in your mouth.  Sanchez had to follow Favre as well, and though Jets fans did not embrace Sanchez immediately, they were ok with ditching the aging Favre.

The reason Aaron Rodgers has had so much trouble is that Packer fans are still in love with their ex-girlfriend.  But now that the new girl has flashed her pearly whites and shown you all that she is younger and more talented, if you know what I mean, it is time to tell her that you love her and start treating her the way that she deserves to be treated.

Bottom line, I pray that I have shown the cheeseheads the light, and as long as they do not stray from the narrow path that is Aaron Rodgers, I expect Packer fans to have countless years of happiness together.

Until next time, good luck figuring things out on your own.
