Chef Michael Smith cooks for the 2010 Olympics

Renowned chef Michael Smith, host of the “Chef at Home,” “Chef at Large,” and “Chef Abroad” TV shows on the Food Network Canada, has been chosen to be part of the elite group of chefs preparing food for the athletes at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. He’ll act as corporate chef for Sodexo Canada, the catering service that is responsible for working the Winter Games. Smith, whose culinary fare is grounded in his wholesome Prince Edward Island home-grown roots, recently said that he was thrilled to be a part of the team who will be cooking for the Olympians. 

Smith has authored three cookbooks and hosted a total of four cooking television series, not to mention the various specials he’s participated in. He’s also been the recipient of the James Beard Award for Cooking Show Excellence.

In the fall of 2009, Chef Michael Smith will appear on another popular Food Network show, “Iron Chef America,” where he will square off against other culinary experts in gritty, face-paced cooking competitions.

While he was preparing for his gig at the 2010 Winter Olympics, Smith received another honourable title – that of Food Ambassador for Tourism Prince Edward Island. He will represent PEI’s local food movement and help to make the province an appealing culinary hotspot by hosting events and raising awareness. PEI’s Tourism Minister said that the board couldn’t have selected a better food advocate given Chef Michael Smith’s passion and pride for regional agriculture and cuisine.
