Capcom Announces New Resident Evil

Capcom has officially announced a new Resident Evil spin-off title — Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. What’s interesting about this game is that it lets you experience events from the opposite side of the field; in other words, the evil side. You play as a member of the Umbrella Corporation security force, sent into Raccoon City to eradicate all traces of the T-Virus outbreak. You’ll also be opposed by the US Government’s own task force sent into ground zero to expose Umbrella for their dastardly deeds.

Operation Raccoon City will allow you to play solo, or with a group of up to three other players in the game’s cooperative mode. You’ll also be revisiting famous locations from both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. So expect to run into Leon S. Kennedy on his worst first day ever at the RCPD. RE: ORC gives players “the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak.”

Where gameplay is concerned, RE: Operation Raccoon City is a third-person shooter with squad-based mechanics. The game is being developed by Slant 6 Games for a winter release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

You can pick up the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine to get the full skinny on Operation Raccoon City. The April issue of GameReactor is also featuring Operation Raccoon City as its cover story.

It looks like Capcom is in full swing with their 15th anniversary celebration of the Resident Evil franchise. Stay tuned to CraveOnline for more on Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City as it gets revealed.
